OUR STORY

(the why behind what we do)

Man with beard and short hair, wearing a blue hoodie over a red shirt, sitting outdoors with trees and a road in the background, resting his chin on his hands and looking at the camera.

I’m Greg MacMackin, Owner and Principal of MacMackin & Son Heritage Home Repairs. With over 30 years’ experience in carpentry, construction and repairs, we provide repair and renovation services to the New River Valley. In an age of point and click booking, I still believe in aptitude over apps, humans returning phone calls, and jobs completed on time and on budget, and those values are the cornerstone of MacMackin & Son Heritage Home Repairs.

As a veteran of the Navy’s Construction Battalion (Seabees), I have always had a love of creating and fixing. That’s partly about seeing a solution come to life - whether for a custom carpentry project, new deck or dock, flooring replacement, or even a simple home repair. But it’s also about the way home renovations and remodels positively impact our clients in the New River Valley. For me, that part of every project is a privilege.

I had the honor of learning a lot of what I know today from one of the best. The first man to put a hammer in my hand and show me how to use it was my grandfather. Bringing me along to his job sites, he taught me the foundations of the work I’ve built my career and reputation on. As a kid, I wanted to be just like him. And while I learned the basics of carpentry and construction from him, he was also teaching me the importance of integrity, respect, hard work, and of course, that “if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.” Also a military veteran, he encouraged me to join the Seabees and develop my skills in service to my country. As I work with my son today, MacMackin & Son Heritage Home Repairs owes a lot of its success to him, as do I.
